Rock Lyric Generator

Inspiration

We were struggling to get started on our hackathon project, and it made us realize that musicians often face the same challenge when beginning a new song. We wanted to create something that would help break through creative blocks and make the songwriting process a little easier.

What it does

The Rock Lyric Generator helps you break through writer’s block by generating a single verse based on the theme and emotion you select.

How we built it

We built a Node.js and Express.js backend that connects to the Gemini API to generate rock and roll lyrics based on a user-provided theme and emotion. The frontend, styled with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, takes user input, sends it to the backend, and displays the formatted lyrics.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge we encountered was integrating the frontend and backend together. Ensuring smooth communication between the two parts of the project took a bit of trial and error, but we were able to overcome it by refining our approach to data handling and optimizing the user experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of leveraging GeminiAPI to convert a user’s input into AI-generated lyrics while maintaining a seamless and engaging user experience. It was a key part of making the Rock Lyric Generator both functional and interactive, and we’re excited about how smoothly the AI integrates with the overall flow. Additionally, we took it a step further by drawing our own version of the Byte mascot, which added a personal touch to the project and made the experience even more unique.

What we learned

We learned how to work efficiently under a time crunch, the importance of teamwork, and how to create a website with both frontend and backend components. This project pushed us to improve our collaboration and problem-solving skills while gaining hands-on experience in full-stack development.

What's next for Rock Lyric Generator

Next, we plan to expand the tool by integrating a backing track or instrumental beats feature, possibly by using another music API. This will allow users to not only generate lyrics but also have a musical foundation to bring their rock songs to life.
