Inspiration
Preparing for SOHacks 3, our team knew we wanted to build something using 3D printing technology. We determined that building a fully controllable prosthetic hand would show the power of 3D printing and simple robotics to create very affordable, functional prosthetics.
How We Built It
We 3D printed all the parts used on the hand, from the joints of the fingers to the palm and forearm assembly. 5 MG90S servos controlled finger and thumb movement individually, allowing for full gesture control, and holding almost any object. The servos were powered by a custom made AA battery bank and controlled with an Arduino Uno
What We Learned
In building the hand, we reenforced our knowledge of Arduino programming and of circuits in general (learning what a common ground was and why it was necessary).
