Inspiration

Ocean pollution is becoming a serious problem around the world. I wanted to create a fun pixel-art game that also spreads awareness about protecting the ocean and marine life. The idea of using a robotic turtle hero felt unique and matched the environmental theme perfectly.

What it does

Roboshell Savior is a 2D pixel-art underwater survival game where the player controls a robotic turtle and destroys floating trash before it reaches the player. As the score increases, dangerous Giant Trash Ball events begin, making the ocean more polluted and chaotic.

How we built it

I built the game using the Maki framework along with pixel-art assets, animated underwater backgrounds, particle effects, enemy spawning systems, score systems, and simple survival gameplay mechanics. I designed the UI, main menu, enemy systems, and visual effects to create an arcade-style underwater experience

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was learning and working with the Maki framework while building the game in a limited amount of time. Another challenge was balancing enemy spawning systems and creating pixel-art assets and animations that matched the underwater theme while keeping gameplay visually clear.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of creating a complete playable game using Maki with original ideas, environmental storytelling, boss events, animated effects, and a unique robotic turtle hero. I also successfully created a retro arcade atmosphere with a meaningful message about ocean pollution.

What we learned

I learned more about the Maki framework, game design, gameplay balancing, pixel-art direction, UI systems, particle effects, and creating a complete game project within a short hackathon deadline.

What's next for Roboshell Savior

In the future, I want to add more bosses, underwater areas, upgrade systems, new enemy types, sound effects, and better animations. I also want to expand the story and make the ocean world feel even more alive and interactive.
