FTC Robocall block contest submission from Eric Johnston, Dallas Tx.
Have all applicable Local Exchange Carriers (LEC’s & CLEC’s) add to existing “class of service” function a Star block service (i.e. *88 for example) so when you get an annoying call, immediately after, pick up handset and when you get a dial tone press *88 and the last call received will be disabled for 24 hours per reported incident. As an additional measure to prosecute and cite offenders further, have the LECs report those numbers captured and reported to the FTC’s annoyance call division by the LEC’s Translations Dept for investigation.
The ease comes with the existing class of service function currently implemented by the majority of LEC’s, and the mass addition of *88 will only require a few keystrokes, easy for the end user and suspected offender phone numbers can be easily captured and reported with existing LEC translation dept. trunk capture/blocking capabilities.
