Inspiration

Part of our team regularly volunteers at a caring home. Those experiences showed them how challenging it often is for older people to access technology. These technologies offer a great improvement in flexibility as well as general standards of living. Enabling people to access technologies that they have previously been excluded from is as such a key motivator.

What it does

The robot uses the GPS of a phone and a destination to find the best route to that location. It then slowly guides a person there.

How we built it

We have utilised google Maps APIs as well as the GPS of a android phone to make this possible. The robot was based on the design of a ftc robot.

Challenges we ran into

USB communication was an unexpectedly large challenge. USB is a modern communication protocol with many implementation steps .

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Ease of use as well as successful USB communication between robot and android device

What we learned

Fundamentals of route planing and usb

What's next for Robo-Service Dog

Refining product alongside better user interface(e.g speech input for destination and speaker to say directions out loud)
