I was inspired by difficult progression-based RPGs such as Arcane Lineage and the massive skill tree from Path of Exile. I wanted to create a Roblox turn-based fantasy RPG where every character’s journey feels different depending on their race, class, equipment, stats, and decisions. In the game, players explore several biomes, encounter enemies and bosses, collect materials, craft equipment, complete bounties, and earn gold and Essence. Instead of automatically leveling up through a traditional experience system, players must survive and bring their collected Essence to a special shrine, where they can level up and receive stat points to place into attributes such as Vitality, Focus, Might, Guard, and Agility. I built the project in Roblox Studio using Luau and separated its combat, progression, inventory, races, crafting, quests, user interfaces, and data-saving features into different systems. The game currently includes eight starting classes that branch into super and ultra classes, eight playable races with unique bonuses, class-restricted weapons, armor, and accessories with passive effects, trainers, crafting stations, encounter zones, multiple regions, and a large interconnected skill tree containing roughly 400 nodes. One of the greatest challenges I faced was connecting all these systems without creating conflicts. Equipment needed to correctly modify character stats, class restrictions had to be enforced, race bonuses had to function during combat, and items had to move safely between the inventory and equipment slots. Designing such a large skill tree while keeping it smooth, readable, and easy to navigate was another major challenge. I am especially proud of how much freedom players have when creating their builds and of the Essence system, which makes progression feel more deliberate because players must return safely to a shrine and decide how their character should develop. While working on the project, I learned how important modular design, testing, balancing, and clear user-interface feedback are when creating a game with many connected mechanics. In the future, I plan to improve the environments, buildings, character models, animations, combat effects, and overall polish while adding more bosses, biomes, quests, equipment, crafting recipes, trainers, and interactions between races and classes. My long-term goal is to create a replayable RPG where exploration feels dangerous, character builds are highly customizable, and every playthrough creates a unique story.
