Inspiration
Globally, around 14 percent of food produced is lost between harvest and retail. Significant quantities are also wasted in retail and at the consumption level. On the other hand, also as per WHO 20% of the population face extreme food shortages. So there is a need to manage both of these problems.
What it does
This is an android based application that helps to restaurants, Hotels and other household to add there address that they have extra food that are being wasted and from other end Ngo's will get the address of these people and they will send their partners to respective places to collect food and distribute them to the needy. NGOs that are helping poor communities to battle against starvation & malnutrition can raise a request for food supply from restaurants through this application.
How we built it
We are using Android Studio for the application and google firebase for the backend for login and registration.
Challenges we ran into
The major challenge we face was to contact with the Ngo's and spread the idea of donation of food to the people.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The happiness that we get by helping the peoples by donating food and also solving the issue of food wastage
What we learned
We learned to build a two way application and also merging the backend data from one side to other(restaurants to Ngo's and vice versa).
What's next for Robinhood-Food Waste Management
Next we are planning to have our own food pickers who delivers food from restaurants and hotels to the needy peoples.
