🧠 Inspiration

Pitching startup ideas is fun — but what if an AI investor roasted your idea before giving advice? I wanted to build something unexpected, viral, and fun to interact with. Instead of serious validation tools, this flips the script: AI that makes fun of your idea first, then helps you fix it (kind of).

⚡ What it does

RoastMyApp lets you pitch a startup idea and instantly get:

  1. A 🔥 brutal roast from a fake AI investor
  2. A 💡 helpful tip that pretends to be actual advice

You can choose your “brutality level” (Soft, Savage, Unfiltered) and click a button to get roasted — all responses are randomized from a curated list of funny and semi-useful replies. No paid APIs. No OpenAI key. Just chaos and comedy.

🛠 How we built it

  • UI built in Bolt.new with clean layout and bold styling
  • Created three sets of roast lines and feedback tips for each brutality level
  • Used built-in JavaScript logic in Bolt to randomly pick from those arrays
  • Added loading animations and funny progress text to simulate AI generation
  • Designed cards with copy/share buttons to encourage posting results

🚧 Challenges we ran into

  • Making the roast lines funny without being too offensive
  • Simulating an “AI experience” using only frontend logic
  • Keeping the tone consistent across random results

🏅 Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • No API, no backend — still feels like a real product
  • Built in under a day, yet looks polished and fun
  • Every tester laughed — and actually asked to try again
  • Delivered both entertainment and light startup advice

📚 What we learned

  • Humor is a feature. It gets people to engage.
  • You can fake an AI experience convincingly with smart UI and randomness
  • Even without real data, if the UX is good — people still love using it

🚀 What's next for RoastMyApp

  • Add more roast lines + community submissions
  • “Tweet This Roast” button with image export
  • Optional “Investor Mode” for serious feedback only
  • Open up a roast leaderboard for the worst ideas ever submitted
  • Eventually: hook it up to OpenAI or local LLMs for real-time roasting
