About the Project

RoastMeGPT is a browser-based app that serves up AI-style roasts with zero hesitation and even less sympathy. Users enter their name or a short description, click “Roast Me,” and instantly receive a savage, randomly generated insult — all for the sake of fun, ego checks, and character development.

It’s fast, funny, and completely front-end powered.

What Inspired Us

We wanted to push the limits of what could be built using just a single prompt, especially within the constraints of Bolt.new. The goal? Make something that feels complete, polished, and genuinely entertaining — all without any backend, API, or setup. If we only had one shot, it had to make people laugh, roast themselves, and come back for more.

How We Built It

RoastMeGPT was built using:

  • React + Vite for fast, clean frontend development
  • **Tailwind CSS for a modern, dark-themed UI
  • Lucide-react icons for flair and visual fire
  • Pure client-side logic, written in TypeScript. (no APIs, no servers)

We hardcoded a list of 7 clever, savage roast lines and randomly serve one up based on user input. If a name or description is provided, it gets personalized. We added a loading state, a flaming icon, and a card layout to polish the user experience — all generated in a single-shot prompt.

What We Learned

  • The power of tight prompts and clever scope — you don’t need a huge codebase to build something viral.
  • How much UI/UX you can accomplish with just React, Tailwind, and imagination.
  • Humor can be a tool just as much as logic — especially when used responsibly... or irresponsibly.

Challenges We Faced

  • Fitting it all in one prompt without making it feel cheap or unpolished.
  • Striking the right tone: funny and brutal, but not actually hurtful.
  • Designing a micro-app that feels complete without needing a backend or database.

Accomplishments We're Proud Of

  • Delivered a complete, interactive app in a single prompt — proving you don’t need complex infrastructure to build something fun and engaging.
  • Nailed the tone and UX — humorous, clean, and instantly shareable without relying on AI or APIs.
  • Designed a fully functional roasting app that’s responsive, modern, and feels like a real product — not just a demo.
  • Built from scratch without bugs, crashes, or backend fuss, running entirely client-side.
  • Made people laugh out loud (and maybe cry a little — but in a character-building kind of way).

What’s Next

  • Add OpenAI integration for dynamically generated roasts.
  • Allow anonymous roast battles between friends.
  • Social sharing tools (because nothing heals like going viral).
  • Possibly launch merch — “I got flamed by a bot” T-shirts, anyone?
