Roastify - Hackathon Reflection

Inspiration

The inspiration came from the endless hours spent crafting the perfect comeback or roast for friends on social media. We realized that with AI's creative capabilities, we could democratize content transformation - turning boring LinkedIn profiles into hilarious rap diss tracks, or any content into any other format. Why limit creativity to one medium when technology can help us express ideas across all formats?

What it does

Roastify is an intuitive creator platform that transforms any content into any other format. Currently focused on social media profile analysis, it takes a LinkedIn or Twitter URL and generates a personalized rap diss track complete with AI-generated lyrics, text-to-speech audio, and synchronized video. The platform analyzes profiles using AI (OpenAI GPT and Google Gemini), creates custom roast content with different humor styles, and exports multi-format media - all in under 8 seconds.

How we built it

We built a full-stack application with:

  • Backend: Python FastAPI with async processing for performance
  • AI Pipeline: Dual analyzer system using OpenAI GPT and Google Gemini for profile analysis
  • Content Generation: Custom lyrics generator with multiple humor styles
  • Media Processing: OpenAI TTS for audio and synchronized video generation
  • Web Scraping: Playwright-based PDF generation for comprehensive profile analysis
  • Caching: Redis integration for optimized API response times
  • Testing: Comprehensive test suite for all components with performance benchmarking

Challenges we ran into

  • Performance Optimization: Achieving sub-8-second generation time required extensive async processing and parallel task execution
  • AI Model Integration: Building a robust fallback system between OpenAI and Gemini analyzers for reliability
  • Content Quality: Balancing humor styles while maintaining respectful roasting that's funny, not harmful
  • Media Synchronization: Aligning generated lyrics with audio timing for cohesive video output
  • Profile Scraping: Handling different social media platforms and privacy restrictions
