Inspiration
We were in inspired by indie games we enjoy playing, and wanted to create something that was similar and just as fun but also included our own experiences and unique ideas. We hope that anyone who is familiar with FIU, or just enjoys escape games, will be able to enjoy the aspects we included.
What it does
"Roary Run" is a first-person escape in which you play as Florida International University's mascot, Roary, and try to collect enough keys to escape a building while avoiding being chased by enemies.
How we built it
We built the game using the Unity platform, as well as using Maximo and AccuRig to animate and rig the assets used.
Challenges we ran into
We had very little experience developing games before this experience, so we ran into some challenges learning how to use the Unity platform and the C# language. Another challenge was coding the AI script for the enemies' attacks and making sure that it still ran smoothly as we updated the map and added new features.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of how the game graphics turned out, especially since we did not have a large budget. We are also proud of how fun the gameplay is, and how it is unique to our ideas.
What we learned
We learned the basics of game design and how to use Unity to create first-person games. We also got familiar with the C# language, and learned how to rig and animate characters and assets.
What's next for Roary Run
We plan on fixing a few bugs and tweaking the enemies' AI script so that it runs more smoothly and is a bit more natural.
