Inspiration
In 2022 we had seen a mass social media driven movement called 'Save Soil' in India. This movement saw a reach of nearly 4 billion people and encouraged many countries to sign policy agreements that moved them towards stronger soil policies. A lot of people including me joined in this movement and showed our support through simple social media posts and jingles and in a very celebratory way all agricultural lands were nudged towards maintaining a minimum of 3 % of organic matter . This got me thinking about the power of social media in todays time and age. The era that we are in today , our most powerful tools are AI and social media. While planting samplings in our backyard, or carrying a cloth bag instead of plastic to the supermarket is cute and appealing it statistically accounts for only a 4 % impact on global climate change. Whereas over 90% of the impact is caused only and only by strong policy changes. What does that mean ? As individuals of a society in a world where most of the countries are democracies, the most powerful thing we can do is reach out to our policy makers and show them our concern for the future of our planet and the upcoming generation. As witnessed in the past a lot of movements have led to people flocking on streets demanding their freedom against climate change and today is our time to flock the social media.
What it does
So our website Roar for climate change is built with one and only one objective which is to get policy makers to bring about policy changes that work strongly towards tackling climate change. We decide to leverage the power of AI to come up with movements. It helps design the names , hashtags , important domains, etc. We mainly address 5 categories of people Individuals, Educational Institutions, Companies, Existing Movements and Policy makers. We wan to educate people on what they can do to voice for climate change. We provide them resources like information about historic movements, current necessities , politics, social media accounts and a lot more. Another unique feature which we continue to work on is to allow people to write letters about their climate change grievances directly to their local policy makers. Most countries being democracies have a public mail id which people can reach out to . And when a huge percentage of the electorate demands for policy changes the people in charge will have to oblige .
How we built it
We built this website using WIX and Canva mainly. In future our aim will be to directly integrate GPT API trained for this onto the website to make it even more functional.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenges we ran into was using GPT API because of the billing. Another hard problem we needed to tackle upfront was to figure out how we were going to get companies , educational institutions etc to join us. For this we realized we would have to start off by reaching schools and colleges locally and further scaling it by trying to make it a regular activity in all the schools in this geography and further expand our reach. Companies could be gotten onboard by incentivizing the people who play major social media roles to be given coupons to these companies, and we will also advertise these companies on social media this way.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the fact that we got the website up and working. Now upon successful integration of AI we should be able to reach out to colleges and schools in our area with a promising resource they can utilize to educate their children while making real world impact.
What we learned
We learnt the importance and power of social media and its power. The true essence of democracy and that if the government fails to work on policies related to climate change its equally the people who are at fault for not voicing it loud enough and letting the authorities know we demand it .
What's next for Roar For Climate Change
Next Roar needs to integrate AI into it and become a machine that produces the highest quality of movements against climate change ! Which in turn leads to very real policy changes .To bring about all this we will require a certain amount of traction which we aim to gather locally first and then scale up!
