What is the problem your solution addresses?

Our solution addresses the lack of personalized recommendations that are based on individual interests and concerns, along with budgeted itinerary planning based on ratings and prices. We discovered that a lot of popular travel and food apps such as Tripadvisor, Yelp, and Culturetrip lack this personalized aspect despite their highly functional screens. Many individuals and groups of people are unfamiliar with the vacation destinations they plan, and are concerned with factors such as safety, price, and accessibility. Many reviews of these places are very generalized, and represent the reputation that specific destination has, which can misconstrue one’s idea of where they travel to.

Why did you pick this solution, and how does it address the problem?

Our solution was to create a prototype for an app that empathizes with each user to tailor to their personal traveling needs by incorporating a “personalized questions” page. There are different categories such as travel interests, preferred travel style, duration of trip, budget, and safety. This page would help the user tailor to their traveling needs to curating a “recommended locations” page based on the “personalized questions” to further the user’s travel experience. We chose this specific solution because it allows for the option for people to feel validated for their concerns and interests, especially when visiting a foreign area. Our solution addresses the problem of the lack of the customization aspect of existing solutions found in previous apps.
