Q1. What is the problem your solution addresses? A: As college students ourselves, we realized we have run into many similar problems when trying to plan a hang-out or trip with friends. Finding activities to do that aren’t exorbitantly expensive, managing time conflicts between large friend groups, and making sure the activities are close by and accessible are just a few of the problems we have dealt with. College students want to go out and explore their college towns as well as plan fun and exciting spring breaks with their friends, however it is difficult for many students to productively plan these outings without assistance. What typically happens is one friend will stress about planning the entire trip by themselves whilst the rest of their friend group sit back and follow the leader because they do not know the first step to planning. We want to improve this planning experience for everybody.

Q2. Why did you pick this solution, and how does it address the problem? A: We surveyed 18 college students and found out that the majority of them have also dealt with similar problems when planning outings with their friends. Common issues were miscommunication, difficulty finding inexpensive options in their area, and timing conflicts. With our app, Roamies, we want to consolidate all of these factors of planning a hangout with friends into one social and easy-to-navigate experience! The main features of Roamies include a search engine that filters out different categories of activities, price ranges, average wait times, and more. There is also a shared itinerary feature that lets you and your friends collaborate on one itinerary where you can share your recommendations and easily see what everyone’s availability is! These features not only simplifies the outing planning process, but also makes the experience enjoyable for everyone involved.
