Inspiration

Talking to travelers, we heard the same frustration again and again. Planning is messy, group coordination is hard, and memories fade after the trip. Journaling feels like a chore, so most people never do it. We set out to create the app that did not exist, one place to plan, capture, and relive every journey.

What it does

Roamee is designed as a travel companion that brings everything together in one place. It helps travelers:

  • Create a list for every adventure, small or big
  • Make a plan that is easy to stick to
  • Organize trips step by step, day by day, directly on a map so every stop makes sense
  • Build lists of places to visit, from nearby cafés to faraway journeys
  • Add places, photos, notes, and documents to create comprehensive plans and journals
  • Relive trips through a memory view that goes back in time, memory by memory

How we built it

We focused on design that is both functional and emotional. The map and timeline combination makes planning simple, the memory layout invites reflection, and the globe ties it all together in a playful, visual way. Seamless integrations with maps and photos make adding places effortless, while the option to include notes and documents ensures every trip can be as detailed as the traveler wants.

We built our iOS app with the latest SwiftUI features, designed for speed, elegance, and long-term maintainability. Early on, we placed a bet on Firebase Data Connect while it was still in beta — a decision that gave us a modern, scalable database layer that now powers our production app. Throughout development, we've followed best practices in architecture and UX, while keeping the foundation ready for future AI-powered features which sit on top of our backlog.

Challenges we ran into

The hardest part was balance. We wanted Roamee to feel colorful and alive while staying simple and functional. The globe had to be more than decoration, it needed to spark curiosity while also serving as a hub for stats and achievements.

Along the way, we faced challenges — from working with Firebase Data Connect in its beta stage, where the Firebase team was extremely supportive and quick with fixes, to iterating and testing heavily to deliver the best possible user experience. Another big decision was choosing the right POI provider, balancing quality and price to bring the most value to our users.

Accomplishments that we are proud of

From our beta tests, we believe we succeeded in delivering real value while keeping the app simple and easy to use. We received overwhelmingly positive feedback from testers, which makes us proud and motivates us to keep improving Roamee.

What we learned

Travelers want more than tools. They want something simple, emotional, and personal. That is why Roamee combines clarity with playful touches like alter egos, celebrating the fact that every traveler is unique.

What’s next for Roamee

This is only the start. Our goal is to make Roamee the most important app for travelers, not only during their journeys but also when they are home, reliving memories and planning what comes next.
