Inspiration
We were inspired by the frequent challenges vehicle owners face when their cars break down unexpectedly. Long waits for roadside assistance or the difficulty of finding a trustworthy mechanic in the moment highlighted a need for a faster, more reliable solution. We wanted to create a platform that connects vehicle owners with nearby mechanics instantly, making car repairs less stressful and more accessible.
What it does
Roadside Repair allows vehicle owners to log in, submit queries about their car problems, and get connected with nearby mechanics. Mechanics can choose to respond remotely or, if necessary, visit the vehicle location for on-site repair. Payments are handled directly at the location, making the process seamless and convenient for both parties.
How we built it
We built the platform as a web and mobile-friendly application with a focus on real-time notifications and location tracking. The backend handles query submissions, mechanic availability, and task assignment, while the frontend ensures a simple, intuitive experience for both vehicle owners and mechanics. We integrated a secure payment system and geolocation features to facilitate on-site services efficiently.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was implementing real-time notifications and location-based mechanic matching. Ensuring data security for user details and payment processing was also a priority. Additionally, we needed to create a user-friendly interface that could be easily navigated by people with minimal tech experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully created a working prototype that connects users with nearby mechanics in real-time. The platform can handle both remote assistance and on-site repairs, and our payment system ensures smooth transactions. We’re proud of building a solution that reduces wait times and stress for vehicle owners while supporting local mechanics. What we learned
We learned the importance of balancing technical complexity with user experience. Handling real-time queries and location-based services required careful backend planning. We also gained insight into the challenges mechanics and vehicle owners face, which helped us design a more empathetic, practical solution.
What's next for Roadside Repair
Next, we aim to expand our mechanic network and implement a rating system to improve trust and reliability. We also plan to integrate AI-based diagnostics to help mechanics provide faster and more accurate remote support. Ultimately, we want Roadside Repair to become the go-to platform for any vehicle emergency, anywhere.
