How RoadSense works :

  • it works by shooting invinsible laser beam towards another RoadSense module ahead, creating a grid on the road surface. This grid of laser light is crucial for motion detection of vehicle on the road.
    • when a vehicle passes through the road, the light emitted by other RoadSense module will be blocked. Because the light has been blocked, the RoadSense that was receiving the light will not receive the light, thus telling the computer unit that an object (which is the vehicle) has blocked the light.

Point 1 :

  • whenever a vehicles tries to overtake another vehicle ahead, RoadSense will "ask" for another RoadSense module ahead if there's another vehicle far infront. If the road is clear, 16 RoadSense modules will emit a green light from their reflector, creating a line of green light which tells the driver that it is safe to take over the vehicle.
  • but when the "asked" RoadSense module detects the presence of other vehicle, it will tell other modules to warn the driver that it is unsafe to take over, which is to display high-intensity red light to the driver.

Point 2 :

  • because RoadSense uses light to detect vehicles on road, any road accident can be easily determined by tracking if two or more vehicle had collided with each other in an unfamiliar driving path.

Point 3 :

  • in Malaysia, flash floods do occur frequently and they prone to floods on road, trapping some road users.
  • because water refracts light ray especially intense laser, the floods will refracts all laser light beam that was being emitted by RoadSense to other RoadSense module, thus resulting interference to all RoadSense module on the road.
  • when more than 20 RoadSense module were interfered by the flood, any unflooded RoadSense module will display a red light, which informs nearby drivers that the road ahead was flooded, thus warning the user to not to use the route.
