Road to Conscience

Our inspiration actually came from our long drive over to the hackathon, which was just over 5 hours. While in the car we saw a rather interesting van drive alongside us that read, Head Injury Association. This sparked a great conversation on how we could aid those dealing with such traumatic ailments. Additionally, we did some quick research to find out that the recovery process of the most common head injury, a concussion, is far more trial and error, with the need for constant check-ups and variability in service. We wanted to offer a more data-driven 21st-century solution to the recovery process. We utilized React, Express, MongoDB as well as the Payfone API to create an online application that measures reaction time based on the user's ability to click a moving button on a phone screen. Due to the use of Payfone for verification, it can only be accessed via mobile data. We as a group had a diverse set of abilities and experiences that allowed us to creatively problem solve our solutions, but due to this, there was some lack of coding experience that leads to challenges in developing the project, specifically the fact that only was team member was able to have the know-how on how to use Payfone. We are overall proud of creating a working demo using a complex new API. We are looking forward to making this better connected to real medical records as well as expanding our testing abilities to also test for attention span that could help detect ADD and ADHD.
