Inspiration
Past personal and professional experiences inspired the creation of Roadwise- we all share concerns about public safety and public health.
Summary
Roadwise analyzes multi-modal, real-time traffic data and accident history in order to help road users and vehicle drivers decide which routes are riskier to take than others.
Building
The Team has experience with using predictive models in other areas such as air pollution, traffic density and healthcare, using multi-modal data, and we intend to apply this experience to create an app geared towards road safety for vehicles and pedestrians alike.
Challenges
The Team comprises of full time working professionals currently engaged with multiple other commitments, making time management the biggest challenge for this project. The Team is also new to the Hackathon scene and is still acclimatising to the culture and challenges inherent to it.
Accomplishments
We identified a shared interest and a common thing we could all work together on pretty swiftly after being introduced to each other and to the Hackathon's premise.
What we learned
We learned that there are many quirks and interesting aspects specific to Hackathon culture and Devpost platform. It has helped us become more assertive in problem solving with 'strangers'. We've also learned a few things about app development and development tools and the pros and cons of various frameworks for app development.
What's next?
We have identified a possible source of match funding, which is the £5,000 award from Anglia Ruskin University Big Research Pitch. We will apply to them so we can continue to develop our proof of concept, and we will do more market research to identify a potential customer base, and based on the feedback we will continue to improve the Roadwise app. Roadwise will continue to see development into a full fledged tool and will receive rigorous real-world or close to real-world testing to gauge it's effectiveness. We will also continue to assess different app development tools and frameworks to work out the best fit for this app and it's specific requirements.
