Inspiration
We always wanted to something that will improve the road travel experience in modern cities. Something that will ensure that our loved reach their destination efficiently, smartly and safely. Ford Go Detroit Hackathon gave this inspiration to realize this dream.
What it does
Road Assist provides audio alerts to pedestrians, cyclists and motorists during their travel. It provides notifications for:
- Dangerous neighborhoods
- Accident prone areas
- Nearby emergency vehicles like Fire brigade, ambulance and Police vehicles
- Traffic rules violation prone areas
- Bad roads (i.e. roads with potholes)
- Closed roads
Road Assist also helps user to track the location of their family members in real time.
How I built it
It is built in the form of a mobile application (available for iOS devices at present). A web application to enter data manually (for accidents, dangerous neighborhoods, closed roads, events etc.) and Web API is also exposed to be used by sensors and individuals to update real time road data.
Challenges I ran into
My complete vision for road safety is vast and selecting on the features to be included for this competition was the biggest challenge.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are able to make this application right from idea to implementation in record time with all possible distractions possible.
What I learned
Together we can achieve more.
What's next for Road Assist
Planning to add routing and navigations services (including real time traffic and all existing parameters). We will also be adding Vehicle to Vehicle communication support and Emergency services.
