Inspiration
We saw how the current situation with COVID put so many families into homelessness because they were unable to maintain paying their rent. We created Afford-a-House in attempt to facilitate the house buying/renting process.
What it does
Afford-a-House allows user to register as buyers or seller and input information about properties and themselves. Then that information will present the buyers with the low income housing that best fulfills their needs.
How we built it
We made an outline of the pages we wanted, and used JavaScript, HTML, CSS to code it. For the maps page, we embedded a map from google maps. We created a color scheme and chose fonts and used CSS to apply it to all of our webpages. We used JavaScript for the sign up and slideshow.
Challenges we ran into
We struggled a bit when it came to embedding the google map and being able to show the listings based in a certain area/zipcode. Eventually we were able to figure out the bugs and have 3 listings in the properties data base.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One of our proudest accomplishments was getting the Map page to work. It was very difficult and took a lot of persistence, but we made it work.
What we learned
Improved our HTML, Javascript, and CSS skills Learned how to create a slideshow with HTML Learned about issues with housing and became more grateful for the things we often overlook.
What's next for RLM
For Afford-a-House we would like to add some sort of chat feature that allows buyers and seller to communicate on our cite. We would also like the add the ability to narrow down results in the Map based on price range and accommodations available. Lastly, we'd like to create a Contact Us page so user can contact the creator and ask them questions.
