Rizzpedia

Inspiration

Rizzpedia was inspired by the growing popularity of slang and internet culture among Gen Z. We noticed a gap in easily accessible, reliable sources for understanding new slang words and phrases. With social media and internet lingo constantly evolving, we wanted to create an app that helps people stay up-to-date on the latest trends in language. Especially people like our computer science teacher, who are the greatest inspirations for this project.

What it does

Rizzpedia is a slang learning app that helps users discover and understand modern slang words and phrases, especially those popular in Gen Z culture. The app provides definitions, examples, and uses interactive features like quizzes to help users retain what they've learned.

How we built it

We built Rizzpedia using Godot for the app's front-end, allowing us to create an engaging and visually appealing user interface. For the backend, we integrated a database of slang terms with definitions and examples. The app also includes user accounts to track learning progress, favorites, and achievements.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was curating and organizing the constantly evolving slang dictionary. Finding and defining a lot of nonsense slang words was extremely difficult. Additionally, creating an intuitive UI that appeals to Gen Z while keeping the app simple and functional took some attempts.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of the app's smooth user experience and the interactive features, like quizzes and flashcards, which help users learn slang in a fun, engaging way. We also feel great about building a large, up-to-date slang database that reflects the real-time nature of internet language.

What we learned

We learned a lot about web design and godot. We learned better ways to make and update lists, as well as more ways to use them

What's next for Rizzpedia

Moving forward, we plan to expand the app with more features, like card games, where users can test their knowledge against others in real-time. We also want to integrate more social aspects, allowing users to contribute new slang words, as well as updating the word list as we see it. We'll continue to refine the user experience and add new ways to keep modernizing speech while keeping it fun.
