Inspiration
This project was started with the goal of implementing an effective solution to marine plastic pollution, by tackling the problem at it roots. We are witnessing a rapid decline of the health of marine ecosystems, and we want to reverse the trend. We are a young, enthusiastic team we have created River Cleaner: an automated system that blocks the plastics before it arrives into the seas. Our mission is to offer a cost-effective solution for local public administrations to manage waste in their waterways, with the goal of making river waste management a simple and efficient procedure. By working together, by combining our knowledge and our different expertise, we aim to prevent plastic from ruining the mesmerizing water worlds.
What it does
The River Cleaner system consists of a mix of civilian infrastructures and artificial intelligence systems, which allow to intercept river waste (macro-plastics in particular), and to automatically convey it to garbage dumpsters at the street level. Thanks to the integration of artificial vision and automatic control systems, River Cleaner project offers an integrated solution to manage river waste, and to prevent plastics from reaching the sea. Our system provides a way for cities to manage river waste just as efficiently as “regular” waste, thus enhancing our control of maritime plastic pollution that originates on land and therefore significantly reducing the environmental impact.
What's next for River Cleaner
Our next steps are to develop collaborations with industrial partners, such as multi-utility firms, to launch a pilot project, in order to gather information on the real-world functioning of our system, as well as on the quantity and type of plastic pollution in rivers. Moving forward we should be able to soon proceed with the implementation of the systems, according to proposals that have already been presented in Tuscany, Lombardy, Veneto.
