Inspiration
We wanted to provide a way for students to digitally interact with the campus. We wanted to create something similar to Yelp but have it be more interactive.
What it does
Users can place and views pins all around the RIT Campus Map.
How we built it
We built the app in .NET 6 using React SPA for the front-end and C# for the backend. We use a google maps library to show the map and we use a SQL database to store the pins.
Challenges we ran into
We changed our project halfway through so we had to work hard to finish our project in a very small amount of time. There were more features we wanted to add; however, due to the time constraints we had to prioritize specific features.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to accomplish a tremendous amount of work in a very short period of time. The app is fully functional and has all of the features we wanted to implement.
What we learned
We learned that it is entirely possible to create a project in a very short amount of time, however it is quite difficult and requires lots of focus and planning skills.
What's next for RIT Map
We want to get lots of users on RIT Map. We want to add different categories for different types of pins. For example, a rating category where you can leave a star rating, or a question and answer category where people can comment on the pin.
