Inspiration

Medication non-adherence is a major issue in elderly care, often leading to preventable health complications. According to the National Institutes of Health, medication nonadherence contributes to approximately 125,000 preventable deaths per year in the United States and up to 69% of all medication-related hospital admissions (NIH, 2011). Existing solutions lack real-time verification and caregiver visibility.

Our Solution

MediLink is an AI-powered medication assistant that ensures users take the correct medication on time. It uses a real-time timer function to track time, a joystick to cycle between medications, and an LCD to display more information. If a dose is missed, it alerts caregivers in real time via a web platform as well as an LED and a buzzer. You may add and delete medications through the webapp.

Pipeline/Tools Used

Frontend: React, Vite, TypeScript, TailwindCSS, Framer Motion, Lucide Icons -- Basically the entire UI/UX Backend: Firebase (auth + Firestore), Gemini API (AI/chat/voice), Express (local API key proxy). Nourishment: Doritos

Challenges We Faced

Parts and components of the electrical circuit are kind of messy and unorganized, and there is no case/pod for the components Arduino and WebApp cannot communicate in real time

What's Next

Add email/SMS alerts for medication reminders Create a casing/pod for all of the components of the electronics Be able to support live-time web app and Arduino syncing without constantly sharing .ino files
