Inspiration
A friend had called me earlier in the day to discuss the hackathon, and we started brainstorming ideas of what we could do. She said something about assessing risks in a workplace, and although she didn't agree with the idea, I did. Despite the minuscule chance that someone would use my program, I wanted to build something that could help someone improve their help.
What it does
The program that I built asks the user a series of questions about their workplace. Using this data that they have collected from the user, it compiles a series of preventative measures that could arise from the workplace, and ready-made solutions to counteract predicted problems.
How we built it
My first objective was to account for everything that made a workplace a risk to your physical and mental health. During my research, I ran into the phrases ergonomic factors, and accident factors, as well as a lot of other terms I didn't know. After I had managed to account for it in my program, my next goal was to somehow use this information to create a list of preemptive safety measures already in place. After that, the program was ready to go.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge that I ran into was accounting for all of the little factors within the overreaching risks. Somehow, I managed to accomplish a program that accounts for all of it. My second challenge was to figure out how risks were calculated. Then, my third challenge was to figure out which safety measures should fall under where. After that, it was simple to fix the programming errors that popped up.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to complete our goal, which was to assess everything in the user's workplace that may affect their health, learn from it, and come up with measures to fix it!
What we learned
I learned a lot about what types of dangers are in a workplace, and what could be used to prevent them.
What's next for Risk Preventative Tool for Workplaces
If I had more time, I probably would have made a website to make the code look 'prettier', as well as include some more factors that I didn't have the time to account for.
