Inspiration

I built this app after realizing that many of my friends, when we hang out together, exacerbate stress(by complaining or rehashing stressors) rather than minimizing it. No apps exist on the iOS app store for collective breathing, and I wanted to create a fun, beautiful tool for collective stress management.

What it does

The app allows players to inhale and exhale deep breaths, their breaths traced by a balloon representing their anxiety. At the end of the game, players receive a collective score(based on amount of engagement and depth of breaths) and can watch the balloon disappear into the sky.

How I built it

I used Swift and XCode to build this app from scratch.

Challenges I ran into

XCode was very finicky today! Since this hackathon was a relatively short one, even small delays can make a big difference, and it was difficult for me to make up the time. I'm so glad I was able to finish.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

This is my first hackathon competing solo! I'm so excited to be able to do this. This is also my first time using GameCenter integrations.

What I learned

I learned a lot about graphic design(I did all the illustrations myself), and so much about app development and UI design. Also, the countdown timer had a few unexpected issues, and I'm so glad I got it working.

What's next for Rise: An App for Collective Breathing and Stress Management

I'd like to improve this app, and maybe even submit it to the app store!
