The solar energy sector is experiencing unprecedented growth globally, with the International Energy Agency projecting solar to become the largest source of electricity by 2050. However, behind this promising landscape lies a critical operational challenge: Solar EPC companies are still managing billion-dollar projects using spreadsheets, disconnected tools, and manual processes.
We spoke with multiple Solar EPC companies and discovered a recurring pattern of pain points:
- Project delays due to poor visibility across procurement, construction, and commissioning phases
- Budget overruns caused by fragmented cost tracking across BOMs, vendor quotes, and change orders
- Compliance nightmares from managing permits, approvals, and documentation across multiple stakeholders
- Resource misallocation with no unified view of workforce, equipment, and material availability
- Decision paralysis due to lack of real-time data and predictive insights
The breaking point came when we learned about a 500MW solar project that suffered a 6-month delay and $12M cost overrun simply because critical path dependencies weren't visible to the procurement team. This wasn't a technology problem—it was a coordination crisis.
RISE AI was born from a simple belief: Managing solar projects that power millions of homes shouldn't feel like flying blind. We set out to build the first comprehensive, AI-powered operating system specifically architected for the unique workflows of Solar EPC enterprises.

How We Built It
Technology Architecture
We built the frontend in React with TypeScript and connected it to a Supabase-compatible client shim, which now routes all requests to Vercel serverless APIs instead of Supabase. The backend uses Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL with IAM-based short-lived authentication tokens, custom JWT login, and S3 presigned URLs for file upload and download. We also implemented a multi-provider AI layer with fallback support across OpenAI, Groq, Anthropic, DeepSeek, and Google Gemini to keep generation reliable.
Challenges We Ran Into
One of the biggest challenges was migrating from the earlier backend model to the AWS architecture without breaking the existing frontend flows. We also had to preserve multi-tenant security, replace the original auth approach, and ensure data isolation at the API layer instead of relying on the previous database-native model.
Another challenge was keeping all modules consistent across the new architecture, including AI generation, file uploads, login, and workflow APIs. Since the platform includes many connected features, each backend change had to be carefully tested to avoid regressions in project management, procurement, and document workflows.

Unlike generic project management tools, RISE AI handles the entire solar project lifecycle—from the first lead inquiry through 25-year asset maintenance. This isn't a project management tool with solar features; it's a solar operating system.

What We Learned
We are proud of successfully evolving the product into a production-oriented AWS stack while keeping the core user experience intact. The platform now supports Aurora-backed data management, secure JWT authentication, S3-based storage, and serverless backend APIs that can scale with the product.
We also preserved the broader vision of the system: a single operating environment for Solar EPC businesses rather than a collection of disconnected tools. That gave us a strong foundation for future scaling, enterprise adoption, and deeper AI integration.
