About Ripple

Ripple was inspired by the gap between crisis reports and coordinated action. In disaster response, the hardest part is often not the absence of need; it’s turning scattered signals into a clear, prioritized path for help. We wanted to build something that makes it easier for residents in crisis to report what they need, and for responders to see, sort, and act on those requests quickly.

Through building this project, we learned a lot about designing for high-pressure, low-bandwidth environments. We also learned how much good UX matters when the stakes are high: the interface needs to be fast, simple, multilingual, and usable even when connectivity is limited. On the technical side, we explored how to structure a two-sided system with a resident-facing intake flow and a responder dashboard that clearly and responsibly present information.

We built Ripple by combining a polished front-end experience with a triage workflow designed around clarity and speed. We focused heavily on the product flow first, then iterated on the visual design to make it feel trustworthy and usable. Along the way, we had to balance ambition with practicality, especially around data sourcing, accessibility, and making the system understandable at a glance.

One of the biggest challenges was deciding how to present crisis information without overwhelming the user. Another challenge was making the project feel grounded in a real operational need rather than a generic demo. That pushed us to refine the structure, simplify interactions, and ensure every part of the experience had a clear purpose.
