Inspiration

Social media rewards attention, not quality. We wanted to create a platform where every post has real consequences, encouraging users to think before they post. That idea became Ripit—a social network where survival is earned, not guaranteed.

What it does

Ripit is a social platform where every post starts with three lives. There are no likes or upvotes—only downvotes. Posts must survive a 24-hour community vote. If a post loses all three lives before time expires, it is permanently obliterated with no archive or recovery.

How we built it

We built Ripit as a modern web application using React, JavaScript, CSS, and Supabase. Supabase powers authentication, the database, and real-time functionality, while React provides a fast and responsive user experience.

Challenges we ran into

Designing a fair voting system that makes every vote meaningful was one of our biggest challenges. We also had to balance performance, user experience, and the permanent deletion mechanic while keeping the platform responsive and intuitive.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of creating a completely different approach to social media. Instead of rewarding endless posting, Ripit makes every post meaningful through its unique three-life survival system and permanent obliteration mechanic.

What we learned

Building Ripit taught us the importance of balancing innovation with usability. We also gained valuable experience designing real-time applications, managing user interactions, and building scalable backend systems.

What's next for Ripit

Our next goal is to grow the community, refine the user experience, introduce new features while preserving the core survival concept, strengthen moderation tools, and continue evolving Ripit into a unique social platform where every post truly has something to lose.
