Inspiration
More than 30% of global emissions come our households. Reducing emissions starts by making them visible. We want to visualize a part of the emissions that you produce daily
What it does
It consists out of an App and the Ring of Carbon box. The app enables you to scan the receipt of your latest groceries tour. The items it finds are then mapped to a certain amount of CO2 equivalent emissions. Those are displayed of the LED ring build into the box. Once the ring "overflows" a preset threshold, a CO2 offset certificate is bought automatically and the ring is set back to zero.
How we built it
We used Flutter to build the app, Google ML kit to do the OCR, HTTP post requests to send the recognized items over to a Raspberry Pi, Flask for the Webserver that accepts the request, our in-house emission prediction logic, Cloverly to buy the CO2 offset certificates and a ring of WS2812 LEDs to visualize it all.
Challenges we ran into
Flutter's dependency management is a mess.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
That we a product that is working end to end
