Inspiration writing
When it comes to studying, the first thing we thought was to give to every student an environment with no distractions. COVID-19 makes it even worse. What we envisioned is a study coach app. Then, what if you could also help the research while studying? Our answer to this question is JuStudy, the app where you support the research while you are preparing your exams.
What it does
JuStudy is the app where you will be both tracked in your studies and support the research. It will help you improving your quality-studying by staying focused. Whenever you want, just set the amount of time and the subject you aim to explore, we will do the rest. Your smartphone would be blocked during this period in order to limit time-waste. At the same time, the app will track your study progress in order to support you with an updated program. Meanwhile, the computational power of your smartphone will be donated to a distributed computing network helping research centres. As a matter of fact, this enormous unexploited potential will be finally unleashed against COVID-19. It will be used for the discovery of new antiviral components by the distributed analysis of billions of possible combinations factors.
How we built it
We analyzed the market (looking for official data in Eurostat et similia) and we found several apps that perform the individual functions independently. The software behind the distributed computing is already existing and open source, it will be implemented in our new platform. We put together the need for students of not using the smartphone and the possibility to give computational power to support the research.
Challenges we ran into
The first challenge was to understand what was distracting students and how much they were studying per week, so we sent a survey. They declared through their answers that the cellphone was the main distraction and so that was our second challenge “to block their phones while they were studying”. Then we needed to understand what “personal study coach” should guarantee and the services should provide. At this point, we faced “how to make the app donate computational power to the research?”. Last but not least we focused on how to make it more user friendly and intuitive.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Create a project in a week from different ideas. Work with several experts in the field to collect the information that we do not have. Get to the end of the hackathon with a working presentation and site. It was a great experience! Thank you for the organization!
What we learned
We learned how to use the basic tools for application and site development, to create the design for the basic mockup of the app.
What's next for JuStudy
A PoC with the study coach soon available for everyone. A computing network soon available for laboratories to support research against COVID-19.
