Inspiration
We wanted a simple solution for students to carpool to the airport. Sharing a ride to the airport is cheaper and more friendly to the environment, and RideshareUCLA makes this easy.
What it does
This application allows students to view a public calendar of others looking to share a ride to the airport and post the times they are looking for. Those who have similar plans can connect to share a ride
How we built it
We built this application with Chakra UI and React, NodeJS, ExpressJS, and Google Firestore.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into unique issues with the calendar UI, passing datetime objects to our API, and CORS :(
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a working app in 1 day.
What we learned
We learned a lot about CORS, calendars, flight APIs, and we even tried SQL!!
What's next for RideshareUCLA
Next, we want to implement live flight data to change preferred ride times automatically. We also want to include Auth0 so users can make accounts and message others through our service.
