Inspiration

We found that road accidents are a big problem which many don't think about today, and that most of them are caused due to drunk driving. So, we decided to make a product which can prevent drivers from driving while under the influence of alcohol.

What it does

Our product detects alcohol levels in the truck and sends a message or calls the owner or the emergency contact of the driver if the levels are too high, and it also detects the heart rate of the driver, sending a message or calling the emergency contact given by the driver if it exceeds a permissible range.

How we built it

The GSM Module is used to send a message to the owner of the commercial vehicle, utilising the SIM card, and the Node MCU WiFi module. The RideSaver also uses the GPS module to send the precise location of the driver at the time of heart rate fluctuations. In the case of an intoxicated driver, the GPS will give a continuous location as the sensor would perpetually be sensing the alcohol in the environment and sending the location to the owner.

Challenges we faced

The sensors had problems and didn't send values accurately, so we struggled to fix it and spent a lot of time checking if the product is working properly or not.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We finalised our product anyways in spite of the challenges we faced. That is what we believe is our greatest accomplishment.

What we learned

We learned about some new circuit modules like the node MCU ESP 8266, a heartbeat sensor, and so on. Also, we learned the importance of teamwork. If we had done all of the tasks individually, there would not be a completed product today .

What's next for RideSaver

Our vision of the RideSaver is to have it work for every car in the world, and help keep roads clean and safe, one vehicle at a time.
