Inspiration
My friends and I live far away from school and we don't have cars. We don't like taking Uber every time but the bus service is not as reliable. We realized that there's probably students in their neighbourhood with cars that we and others can pay a small fee to ride along with them.
What it does
Ride Along is a mobile application and web app that allows students without cars to hop on with nearby students driving to school at a cheaper negotiable price compared to what we have on Uber and other ride share platforms.
How we built it
We used Flutter for the frontend, supabse for the backend to handle user authentication, role management and in-app messaging. We used google maps and geolocator for map rendering, location, and coordinate calculations (Distance-radius, etc). Figma for logo and animation design.
Challenges we ran into
One of my friends was using windows while we were using Macs so he couldn't build for iPhone because Xcode is not available for Windows. Also my apple code signing was not working for the first 3 hours so also could not build. I just created a new profile and install flutter from scratch 👍
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We finished a useable MVP in one weekend. I am personally proud of that and proud of our team to pull this off.
What we learned
How to properly use terminal and git to make life easier🥲
What's next for Ride Along
We have already agreed to meet once a week to continue working on the app. I have gotten my apple development certificate for pushing to App Store. We plan to take it all the way and scale it to have more features we wrote down.
