Inspiration
Everyone is so sick of dealing with Covid, so we thought it would be fun to relieve some of the stress and blow it to smithereens.
What it does
Ricky Saves the Universe is a 2D arcade-style game where the only objective is to make it as long as possible without being put in quarantine. Blow up hordes of nasty little Covid virus and get powerups to help you along the way!
How we built it
The game was built with Unity and C#, with the high score database being done in CockroachDB with audio enhancements from Dolby.
Challenges we ran into
Setting up the database and querying game data was a big challenge for having never worked with CDB before. The intricate enemy behavior in the game was also quite a challenge to get set up properly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting a (mostly) functioning game out and having fun while doing it.
What we learned
Trying to mix Trigonometry and sleep deprivation isn't a good idea. Jokes aside, a lot of valuable knowledge in C#, Unity, and CDB with SQL was gained that could help future projects.
What's next for Ricky Saves the Universe
The game could use quite a bit of polish, and the website could use a permanent domain if it were to become a big thing.
