As a Caribbean millennial, I’ve witnessed the evolution of Soca music firsthand. Each decade refined our sound, bringing us closer to competing with rock, pop, and other global genres. Yet despite the artistry and quality, our music has been held back by weak digital infrastructures. Metadata for songs is often incomplete, leaving royalties unpaid. Many artists are missing from platforms like Discogs, lack bios, social media presence, or fan systems to connect with audiences. Distribution remains limited, and artist placement is inconsistent. These gaps frustrate talented creators, forcing some to leave the industry altogether. I realized that the problem isn’t the music — it’s the systems around it. That’s why I set out to build an ecosystem that breaks these digital chains, protects artists, and connects Caribbean culture to the world.

Ensures every song has complete credits (artist, producer, songwriter) so royalties flow correctly.

Artist Profiles
Creates standardized bios, discographies, and digital presence across platforms like Discogs, Spotify, and social media.

Builds tools for fans to connect directly with artists — newsletters, communities, and interactive spaces.

Distribution Support
Expands reach beyond Carnival seasons by helping artists place music on streaming platforms and global playlists.

We Built It with AI Studio

Prompt-Oriented Design We started by defining artist pain points (metadata gaps, weak distribution, missing bios).

Each pain point was translated into AI prompts that drive specific workflows — e.g., “Generate complete metadata for a Soca track” or “Draft an artist bio for streaming platforms.”

Model Integration AI Studio allowed us to connect large language models for text (bios, fan engagement content) and structured outputs for metadata.

We orchestrated these models into pipelines that handle ingestion (song data), transformation (metadata cleanup), and output (distribution-ready packages).

Workflow Automation Built custom flows in AI Studio to automate repetitive tasks:

Metadata validation → ensures credits are complete.

Artist profile generation → creates bios and discographies.

Fan system setup → drafts newsletters and engagement posts.

Deployment & Ecosystem

Using AI Studio’s deployment features, we connected the app to Firebase authentication for secure artist logins.

APIs were integrated for Discogs, Spotify, and social platforms, ensuring artists can sync profiles seamlessly.

The ecosystem was designed to scale — so new genres, artists, and fan systems can be added without rebuilding the core.

Challenges Experienced Metadata Consistency Many Caribbean songs lack proper credits for producers, songwriters, and stage names.

Inconsistent metadata blocks royalty payments and confuses streaming platforms.

Genre Recognition Platforms often misclassify soca, calypso, and chutney under “World” or “Reggae.”

This reduces discoverability and limits playlist placement.

Digital Infrastructure

Weak regional systems for distribution, publishing, and artist management.

Artists often self-finance and operate without institutional support.

Fan Engagement Many artists lack bios, websites, or social media presence.

Without fan systems, audiences can’t connect beyond Carnival seasons.

Artist Retention Talented creators leave the industry due to frustration with weak protections.

Lack of sustainable income leads to burnout and career abandonment.

AI Integration While AI Studio helps automate metadata and bios, training models to handle Caribbean-specific rhythms and cultural nuances is complex.
