Inspiration

Living in a small city as a college student with no personal and limited public transportation, it is difficult and worrisome wondering how one will arrive to neighboring cities and obtain essential products for a reasonable price.

What it does

RexRide connects drivers and riders, making it possible for drivers to reduce carbon emissions and costs. This platforms offers a solution for individuals to arrive to their destination and it also provides an opportunity for others to serve by sharing their transportation to reach .

How we built it

Collaborating in a team of 4, our unit was able to split the responsibility of key web application processes. We utilized Git and Github to update files one with another, designing the front facing web application with a React Javascript library, building our behind the scenes server, and utilizing Google Firebase to contain user data.

Challenges we ran into

For a majority of our team, this was a fresh experience that required us to research and study official documentation for the technologies that were unknown to us. Fetching and updating data from the client to the database was

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a team we were all proud that individually we were able to contribute to a significant aspect of the web application. Our team collaboration was positive and empowering which helped us to avoid major disagreements.

What we learned

We learned how to communicate areas of weakness and be responsible for fulfilling our tasks. We have gained first hand experience with creating a near full-stack application, creating APIs, and receiving/posting to a database.

What's next for RexRide

We plan to improve this application to have it hosted on a cloud service with AWS or Firebase. We would like to add other features such as a Google Map API implementation.
