Inspiration

The inspiration for our project was to address the specific needs of budget-conscious consumers and college students in our local community. We saw an opportunity to create a platform that not only provides valuable savings but also fosters a sense of connection and support within the community. By combining technology with a focus on affordability, our project is inspired by the goal of making daily life more convenient and cost-effective for our target audience.

What it does

Our project is a web application that uses web scraping to compile and display exclusive deals and discounts from local grocery stores. It serves as a one-stop platform for shoppers to discover and access money-saving offers in their community.

How we built it

Our project was developed using a combination of key technologies. The front-end was built with React. We used Python for web scraping, enabling us to use real-time deals from local grocery stores efficiently. Figma also played a pivotal role in crafting an engaging and user-friendly design for our platform.

Challenges we ran into

We struggled website shutdowns disrupted our data scraping efforts, forcing us to adapt scraping techniques. Varying data formats from different websites required us to develop standardized data presentation methods. Integration and troubleshooting with Firebase in our backend infrastructure added complexity to our development process. Despite these hurdles, we remained dedicated to delivering a top-quality user experience

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We take pride in three significant achievements. First, successfully gathering data from multiple websites expanded our platform's deal offerings. Second, our user-friendly UI design ensures an engaging user experience. Lastly, the meticulous standardization of column names enhances data clarity and accessibility for our users. These accomplishments have been pivotal to our project's success.

What we learned

Throughout our project, we acquired essential skills. We honed our web scraping proficiency, adapting to diverse website structures and data formats. Additionally, we gained hands-on experience in web application development, encompassing both front-end design and back-end functionality. These skills have equipped us for future projects and challenges in the ever-evolving tech landscape.

What's next for Rexburg SuperSaver

Looking forward, our project's future goals include developing an API to broaden data accessibility, expanding our database with additional tables and categories, and implementing user-friendly features like favorites and sale notifications. These objectives aim to enhance the user experience and provide a more comprehensive platform.
