Introducing HHire
HHire is a global online marketplace for hospitality and travel industry professionals impacted by COVID-19, empowering individuals with a hospitality based skillset to provide their services on a temporary, freelance basis.
What problems does HHire solve?
The World Travel and Tourism Council projects a global loss of 75 million jobs as a result of COVID-19. HHire aims to help individuals who have been impacted.
The WTTC estimated that, once the outbreak is under control, it would take up to 10 months for the tourism sector to return to its normal levels.
Customer Value Proposition
Imagine being able to order a professional hotel standard housekeeping service for your home, or a chef to cook a meal to remember for you and your family in the comfort of your own home. HHire aims to bring these opportunities to life whilst providing income opportunities to hospitality industry employees in this time of need.
HHire service providers are also vetted through HHire's partnership with hospitality industry employers, who will be asked to provide a one click reference validation for service providers signing up. References will be displayed as a badge in service provider profile pages within HHire
HHire Services to include:
- Housekeeping - professional cleaning at home
- Chef - expert cooked meals made in your home
- Engineers - Fast jobs in the household (plumbing, electricians etc.)
- Concierge services
- Yoga and wellness classes for the WFH generation
- Spa and Massage services
- IT services
Would hotels support this initiative?
Feedback from a hotel owner:
"This is true problem. Many of our staff are working with us for reduced days at the moment until we fully open up again. And we have also furloughed some employees who will resume with us once we open So I wouldn’t mind putting them on a platform to give them other opportunities since this is a tough time for many of them and get them back on their feet"
Business Model
Phase 1
- HHire will operate on a not-for-profit basis for the first 12 months (or longer depending on how long COVID-19 lasts).
- HHire will take a small commission to be charged per booking to cover overheads.
- The main focus will be on generating temporary income opportunities for hospitality professionals
Phase 2 - Longer Term (Post COVID-19)
To move to a long term sustainable business model, we would seek to leverage our database of talent combined with the data gained through the marketplace during Phase 1 (eg review scores for service providers) to develop a premium B2B tier (HHire+). If we can successfully scale the supply side of the marketplace, we could have one of, if not the world's largest talent directory to monetize while truly helping industry professionals that have been retrenched to find a more permanent role if so desired.
We foresee a lot of potential uses cases which could be monetized through selling access to our database.
For example:
- Corporations looking for temporary and permanent workers
- Event organizers looking for supporting talent
How did we build HHelp?
Unfortunately we lost all contact with our backend developer 24 hours into the hackathon so we shifted focus to build a design level prototype in InVision.
What are we proud of
The idea - coming up with a solution which could really have a positive impact in helping people and pulling together with limited resources to develop this prototype.
What is the next step for your solution and how will you take that step?
Speed to market and getting the supply side of the marketplace ready is critical in order to provide opportunities when people really need support and to ensure the marketplace is an attractive proposition to customers at launch.
To start with, we will select a handful of pilot markets to launch an MVP - markets would be selected based on the state of current government regulations around COVID-19 in each country.
Funding: As a next step, we will seek funding / grants in order to fund the development of HHire and also seek to leverage laid off or furloughed travel industry developers to build it. Sectors to approach: Private sector, tourism bodies, government agencies supporting COVID-19 relief initiatives. To ensure the supply side is ready, we will seek the widespread support of travel industry HR professionals to get the message out to travel industry employees that HHire is there to provide support to them, and to encourage registrations.
