The TLDR is that we’re building an alcohol tracking app that’s born from my personal struggle with Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD).
I come from an Irish family—drinking's in my DNA. For years, I thought I had it under control—the truth is, I didn't—I never did. I'm not a raging alcoholic, but I've wanted to stop drinking so much, so mindlessly. For a long time, I wondered what it's like to "drink normally." After doomscrolling Reddit for some time, I discovered a scientific method designed to either help you quit/moderate your alcohol intake, called The Sinclair Method (TSM). In its simplest form, TSM involves taking an opioid blocker called Naltrexone, waiting an hour, then drinking as usual. Over time, cravings decrease, leading to abstinence or moderation. This process can take anywhere from 6 months to a few years, it really depends on the person. Throughout the process on TSM, one of the most important things you can do is keep a log of your drinks. Current drinking apps are often bloated with unnecessary features or the apps just aren't easy to use.
That's why we're creating a simple, focused app for tracking drinks and progress tailored for those using TSM. This all started as a personal project, but after joining a Discord community of 1,000+ others on the same journey, who are battling the same issues I am, I realized how many people we could potentially help.
