Inspiration

As university students, we have trouble keeping a good routine during quarantine. Maintaining a good sleep and work schedule becomes a challenge as we are always staying indoors. Considering how difficult it is, it must be just as, if not more, difficult for children. So, our team was inspired to make a fun scheduling app for this audience.

What it does

Rewards planner is a mobile scheduling app for the parent and child. The parent can see the child’s progress throughout the day, and the child gets rewarded if they have completed their assigned tasks. On top of this, notifications are sent either about the customized tasks or essential activities like exercise, eating, and sleeping. These small encouragements promote more interactivity and communication between both parties throughout the day.

What I learned

In making this app, our team had the first time experience of mobile app development using Flutter and a Firebase backend. The learning curve was very steep: we were using an unfamiliar programming language and frameworks. Still, this was an invaluable experience as first time hackers. In the end, we got an understanding of the planning required for spontaneous projects and the confidence to start them.
