Inspiration

The project was inspired by my desire to create a rewards program that truly empowers and mobilises the user community of the product I manage. I wanted to go beyond traditional approaches and design a program that fosters a sense of ownership, enables collaboration, and fuels growth.

While the design kit template is very much still under construction, I’m currently using it to build out our own reward program for our developer user community at Pusher. Which is great because I've been wanting to use Coda more at work but we have a strict Google Suite only policy - but since we need to a tool to collaborate with our user community Coda fits perfectly in our stack. I can’t speak on the project too much as we have’t launched yet but I’m delighted to know that Coda will make managing this reward program a whole lot easier for me!

I would say the biggest barrier to launching a rewards program is finding the right platform to do so that’s tailored to the needs of your community. Particularly if knowledge-sharing and enablement is key to success with your offering. The difference between a Tesco rewards program and a Generative AI community rewards program (for example) is that in the latter it goes beyond rewards for loyalty. You want to encourage you users to contribute to the community by creating educational content for each other - the best way to do that is to prove the with the tools and workspace to do so. That’s why Coda is an excellent tool for this use case.

This kit has already supercharged the process of creating a rewards program for me at Pusher. The idea was born 3 months ago and thanks to Coda I should be ready to launch next month!

What it does

My project is a comprehensive rewards program design kit that helps teams that incentivise users to contribute to the community through activities like creating educational content, organizing events, and participating in customer research.

Design your rewards program with this kit and automate:

  1. Landing Page Creation: Coda AI automates the process of building and customizing a rewards program landing page. It suggests relevant sections and provides smart templates, enabling you to quickly set up your program and start engaging users without the need for manual coding or design.
  2. Contribution and Rewards Point Allocation: Take advantage of the pre-configured contribution types and reward items in the template. Dynamically allocate points to contribution types and reward items using with the smart Point Allocation AI Column.
  3. Reward Store Creation: Choose from the pre-configured option or add your own reward items to your store. Let Coda AI give you tips on what to include in your reward store to make sure it appeals a range of different users.

Manage your rewards program with the help of Coda AI

  1. Filter for Contributors with the most potential: In the Team Portal doc, fly through screening with the help of Coda AI in judging whether an applicant is high potential or not.
  2. Onboard Contributors and assign Contributor Portals: Draft an onboarding email with Coda AI and invite Contributors to their personal Contributor Portal doc. Auto-generate a contributor guide based on your contribution opportunities selection.
  3. Generate reports based on feedback from contributors: Invite contributors to give feedback in the Contributor Portal and generate reports to inform improvements to the program in the Team Portal.

Give your Contributors the tools to do their best work

  1. Contributor Recommendations and Planner: Personalised to each Contributors goals, Coda AI recommends and helps Contributors set goals and plan how they’d like to contribute to the community in the future
  2. Contribution Proposal Reviewer: Coda AI offers Contributors tips on how they can improve their proposal before submitting in the contribution form
  3. Contributor Workspace: Powered by recommendations from Coda AI, your Contributors can draft and work on their approved contributions right in the Contributor Portal!

Challenges I ran into

Creating the Reward Program Designer Kit was quite a journey, filled with its fair share of challenges. I found myself spending countless hours tinkering with the Coda AI and trying to crack the code of crafting consistent prompts using Promptology principles. Little did I know that what seemed like a simple task, like assigning points based on contribution and reward names, would turn out to be trickier than expected. It made me realize that AI lacks that human touch when it comes to subjective value judgments. As luck would have it, the London weather was downright dreadful during the hackathon, making it an easy decision to stay indoors and dive into the project. But looking back, I do wish I had started earlier. There were so many exciting functionalities and design elements that I couldn't squeeze in due to time constraints. Nevertheless, it was a learning experience that taught me the power of perseverance and the art of adapting to challenges along the way.
