Inspiration

Rewandr started as a gift. During a trip to the US with my parents, I made a simple home-printed book filled with travel tasks and small quests. Each page had space for a Polaroid photo, and every completed mission became a memory we could literally stick into the book.

That little experiment turned our trip into something much more fun and interactive — and the book quickly became a treasure full of moments we could revisit. We loved it so much that I thought: why should this be only for us?

As an engineer, the next step felt obvious: automate it, scale it, and bring it to more people. I told a couple of friends, they loved the idea, and that's how Rewandr was born.

What it does

Rewandr adds a layer of fun, discovery, and play to your travels. Whether you're off on a long holiday, a weekend city-break, or just exploring your local area, the app turns your trip into a personalized questbook.

You tell us how you like to travel, what excites you, and what doesn't, and we generate quests tailored just for you. Best part? Rewandr works for almost every place in the world, so no matter where you're heading, there's always a quest waiting.

Within seconds, you get a personal questbook filled with challenges and discoveries, ready to use without hours of scrolling through blogs and guides.

Every completed quest can be saved with a photo, so your memories stick with you forever. In the future, you'll even be able to print your questbooks and hold those memories in your hands.

How we built it

Rewandr is built with Expo and React Native. The Android app is already live on the Play Store, and the iOS version is planned for release in October.

Behind the scenes, we use Google Places for rich geographical data, combined with AI models that help us process information and create the best possible quests. The mix of mobile tech and AI makes it possible to deliver personalized itineraries that feel like they were crafted just for you.

Challenges we ran into

Time was our biggest enemy. None of us had much real-world experience in mobile development, so cross-platform work with Expo meant a steep learning curve.

On top of that, training and fine-tuning AI models to create quests that were fun, clear, and actually useful turned out to be both challenging and fascinating.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Before the app was even ready, we tested the idea with printed questbooks and quest cards. The feedback was amazing. People told us our quests made their trips feel more meaningful and fun. That's a good thing to be proud of!

We're also proud that we've delivered a production-ready app that isn't just cute to look at (though still it is), but genuinely improves the way people experience travel.

What we learned

Besides learning the proper way to balance coffee intake during late-night coding marathons, we've gained a lot:

  • how to ship a mobile app from scratch,
  • how to design playful but practical user experiences,
  • how to generate and process large sets of data, train and fine-tune AI/LLMs, and turn abstract information into real quests tied to actual places
  • and how to keep everything running smoothly with limited resources.

But the biggest lesson was simple: people genuinely love this idea, and it has the power to make travel a little more magical.

What's next for Rewandr: Travel Quest App

This is just the beginning. Here's what we're working on next:

  • Better map integration: making it easier to see, navigate, and complete quests right inside the app.
  • AI-powered travel profiles: the app will learn from your completed quests and feedback to make each trip more personal.
  • Quest-based trip planning: letting you build full itineraries in-app, made just for you, by you (with some help of Rewandr magic).
  • Printed products: quest cards for popular destinations, physical questbooks with your photos, and more ways to keep your memories alive.
