Problem: After Disaster Strikes
Following the unfortunate events of natural disasters, first responders need to quickly provide aid to citizens based on priority, while citizens continue to put out calls for aid and, more importantly, survive the aftermath and trauma.
Solution: Enter RevVio
RevVio Citizen
RevVio Citizen Having received the city's emergency alert, citizens can request aid from first responders through our mobile app RevVio Citizen, as well as through text messages. Through our app and SMS, the information provided by the citizens will contribute to the creation of a victim priority queue and the facilitation of the deployment of first responders.
RevVio Responders
RevVio Responder Requests for aid by the citizens power the mobile app RevVio Responders, along with our SMS ChatBot, empowering first responders with the information they need to provide aid to those who require it most.
Process: Powered by Boston’s Open Data Hub
We struck inspiration gold with the Boston's open data hub, which included data on social vulnerability and coastal flooding. Pulling from these open data sets, we optimized how responders connect with citizens who are most vulnerable.
Challenges
Understanding Ethics
Our team considered numerous ramifications in how the data prioritizes the calls for aid. Instead of pitting impossible ethical decisions against one another, we instead prioritized the number of responders to be dispatched accordingly to the requested locations.
While Balancing Ambition
A big vision needs a balanced execution. Our team of five driven and highly ambitious hackers pared down the demos in order to best reflect that vision.
