À mon entrée à la faculté, j’ai eu beaucoup de mal à adapté mes révisions avec les types de cours magistraux et les examens sous forme de QCM. Lorsque j’ai reçu mes premiers résultats, j’ai été déçue. Il fallait que je me trouve une méthode de travail efficace et surtout qui me donne envie d’apprendre. J’adore mes études mais j’avais beaucoup de mal a tout retenir et à exceller aux examens. J’ai commencé à installer des applications boostée par l’IA pour réviser et apprendre, mais aucune d’elles ne m’a convaincue. Soit elles étaient payantes (abonnements, fonctions premium) soit elles ne regroupaient les fonctionnalités dont j’avais besoin. J’ai décidé alors de m’y prendre moi même et de créer ce dont j’ai vraiment besoin pour m’aider à apprendre et réviser, et si par la même occasion je peux aider d’autres étudiants je le ferai.

When I entered university, I found it very difficult to adapt my revision to the types of lectures and MCQ exams. When I received my first results, I was disappointed. I had to find an effective way of working and, above all, one that made me want to learn. I love my studies, but I was finding it very hard to retain everything and excel in my exams. I started installing AI-boosted apps to study and learn, but none of them convinced me. Either they were not free (subscriptions, premium features) or they didn't have the features I needed. So I decided to do it myself and create what I really needed to help me learn and revise, and if I could help other students at the same time, I would.
What it does

Swaf, est inspiré du mot français « Soif », qui signifie non seulement qu’on a besoin de boire mais aussi qu’on a une très forte envie d’assouvir quelque chose. On utilise souvent l’expression « avoir soif de connaissances » en France pour dire qu’on a vraiment une forte envie d’apprendre. Et c’est de par ma forte envie d’apprendre que j’ai voulu essayé de developper une application comme Swaf. Swaf permet aux étudiants de comprendre leur cours de manière accessible et surtout ludique. Elle permet de découper le cours pour être sûr de passer en revue l’ensemble de la leçon, puis elle permet d’expliquer de manière ultra pédagogique le cours en lui même, et surtout il est aussi possible que le cours soit expliqué de manière un peu moins formel pour créer une émotion, un souvenir, une anecdote pour ancrer le contenu dans la mémoire à long terme. Dans un second temps Swaf propose des mini jeux qui ont pour but de booster les apprentissages et la rétention d’informations, mais je ne vous parle pas simplement de flash card, je vous parle de jeux qu’on connaît tous mais adapté aux révisions. Comme le « qui est-ce ? » ou encore un escape game. Puis Swaf permet aussi de regrouper tous les termes à connaître Sous forme de glossaire, ce qui est essentiel pour la compréhension et certains examen avec des notions compliqué. Le glossaire sera exportable pour un créer des flash card avec une autre application. Pour finir, les étudiants ont accès à des statistiques motivantes, elles ne doivent pas mettre une pression, juste fournir un indicatif de leur progression et les motivé à continuer sur leur lancée. En bref, Swaf encourage, booste, aide et accompagne les étudiants qui veulent apprendre à étudier efficacement et exceller.

Swaf, is inspired by the French word “Soif”, which means not only that you need to drink, but also that you have a very strong desire to satisfy something. We often use the expression “avoir soif de connaissances” in France to mean that we have a really strong desire to learn. And it's because of my strong desire to learn that I wanted to try and develop an application like Swaf. Swaf enables students to understand their course in an accessible and, above all, fun way. It allows you to break down the course to make sure you go through the whole lesson, then it allows you to explain the course itself in an ultra-educational way, and above all it's also possible for the course to be explained in a slightly less formal way to create an emotion, a memory, an anecdote to anchor the content in long-term memory. Secondly, Swaf offers mini-games designed to boost learning and information retention, but I'm not just talking about flash cards, I'm talking about games we all know, but adapted to revision. Like “Who is it?” or an escape game. Swaf also enables you to group together all the terms you need to know in a glossary, which is essential for understanding and for some exams with complicated concepts. The glossary can be exported to create flash cards with another application. Finally, students have access to motivating statistics, which are not intended to put pressure on them, but just to provide an indication of their progress and motivate them to keep up the momentum. In short, Swaf encourages, boosts, helps and accompanies students who want to learn to study efficiently and excel.
How we built it

J’ai fait une liste avec tous les points clés que je veux que swaf possède, il y en a beaucoup, bien trop pour qu’elles soient déjà inclue dans mon prototype. J’ai parlé avec de nombreux amis étudiants pour m’aider à comprendre ce qui manque vraiment dans les applications existantes et surtout ce qui les aideraient eux à mieux réviser et avoir envie de réviser. J’ai utilisé bolt pour produire un prototype de mon application et avoir un aperçu des fonctionnalités. Mais en parallèles j’ai tester ma méthode d’apprentissage avec l’intelligence artificielle de mon coté (le découpage, le résumé, les explications ludiques, le glossaire et les jeux). Et ceci m’a permis d’augmenter ma moyenne du second semestre de plus d’un point ! J’ai hâte maintenant de pouvoir avoir toutes ces fonctionnalités regroupées dans une seule et même application.

I've made a list of all the key points I want swaf to have, and there are far too many to be included in my prototype. I've spoken to a number of student friends to help me understand what's really missing in existing applications and, above all, what would help them revise better and want to revise. I used bolt to produce a prototype of my application and get an idea of its functionality. At the same time, I tested my learning method with artificial intelligence on my side (the breakdown, the summary, the fun explanations, the glossary and the games). And this enabled me to increase my second semester average by more than a point! I can't wait to be able to have all these features in a single application.

Pour l’instant mon prototype ne comporte pas du tout d’intelligence artificielle et je sais que ce sera un challenge de l’intégrer de manière efficace. Lors de la création de mes prototype j’ai du m’y reprendre à plein de fois car l’apparence de mon application ne me plaisait pas du tout, mais finalement avec des recherches et de l’aide de mes amis j’ai pu produire un prototype qui me convient.

For the moment, my prototype doesn't feature artificial intelligence at all, and I know that it will be a challenge to integrate it effectively. When I was creating my prototypes, I had to go over it again and again because I didn't like the look of my application at all, but finally, with some research and help from my friends, I was able to produce a prototype that suited me.

Je suis fière d’avoir pu créer une base solide de mon application même si il reste encore plein de fonctionnalités à ajouter. Je suis fière d’avoir pu faire ceci alors que je ne connais rien du tout au développement et au codage.

I'm proud to have been able to create a solid base for my application, even if there are still plenty of features to be added. I'm proud to have been able to do this even though I know nothing at all about development and coding.
What we learned

J’ai appris beaucoup de chose au sujet du développement d’application et de l’intelligence artificielle, j’ai aussi appris que mes études en sciences cognitives seront un vrai atout dans la mise en œuvre de ce projet.

What's next for swaf

La prochaine étape sera d’implanter les autres fonctions majeures que j’ai imaginé, mais surtout d’intégrer l’intelligence artificielle dès que possible. Une fois cela fait je pourrait tester mon application pour mes futures révisions et vraiment me rendre compte de son aide. Je sais qu’elle va me faire gagner énormément de temps et qu’elle peut aider tout le monde.

The next step will be to implement the other major functions I've imagined, but above all to integrate artificial intelligence as soon as possible. Once that's done, I'll be able to test my application for future revisions and really see how helpful it is. I know that it will save me an enormous amount of time and that it can help everyone.
