Inspiration

As freshman, we were excited to participate in our first hackathon. Our application involved experiencing new things and testing ourselves.

What it does

Using natural language processing, Reviewz uses a pre-trained model to determine the positivity within a customer's review of a product, assigning it a numerical value. By correlating hundreds of reviews together, Reviewz produces a histogram and heat map, to show how positively or negatively a product is received.

How we built it

Using React.js as a front-end and Python libraries as a back-end, we used the used an AI module to parse customer review website into readable documents, as well as analyze the the attitude of customer feedback.

Challenges we ran into

As freshman, we ran into much trouble dealing with the new programming and scripting languages of Python and React. It was difficult to balance the little time we had, to ensure we could produce a satisfying front-end that properly connected to our back-end logic.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As freshmen who have almost spent one semester in college, we are proud to have completed and submitted a successfully functioning application. It is a given that our more experienced seniors may outshine us, yet this is an accomplishment to be proud of nevertheless.

What we learned

Time was of the essence during these 24 hours, and we certainly understood that quickly. As the Sunday morning hours crunched towards the deadline, our team was frantically scrambling to add the finishing touches. With considerably better planning and time management, however, the next project will proceed without a hitch.
