Inspiration

Every developer knows the pain of code reviews. They take 30-60 minutes, quality is inconsistent, and security issues slip through under time pressure. We wanted to build a tool that makes instant, high-quality code review accessible to every developer.

What it does

ReviewPilot analyzes any public GitHub PR or GitLab MR instantly. Paste a URL, select your review focus, and get a structured AI review in seconds — risk score, plain English summary, issues by category, actionable suggestions, complexity scoring, and markdown export.

How we built it

• Frontend: Next.js 16 + Tailwind CSS
• AI: Google Gemini 3.6 Flash (1M token context)
• APIs: GitHub REST API + GitLab REST API for real diff fetching
• Deployment: Vercel global edge network

Challenges

• Handling large PR diffs within API limits
• Getting Gemini to return consistent structured JSON
• Supporting both GitHub and GitLab URL formats

What we learned

Gemini 3.6 Flash is incredibly capable for code analysis. The 1M token context window handles even massive PRs with hundreds of files changed.

What's next

GitHub App for automatic reviews, team dashboards, CI/CD integration to block high-risk merges, and private repo support with OAuth.
