Inspiration
I always wanted to ensure integrity and authenticity for everything I purchase, especially the food that I eat. Each time one goes to a restaurant, it's a no-brainer to expect quick and quality service.
What it does
Sometimes, Google Reviews can be faked by the company, so we find it important to ensure that users get real, authentic opinions from people who frequently visit the restaurants they plan to go to. And so what the Chrome extension does is gather opinions of outside sources like Yelp and Reddit, and give the user the positive and negative experiences they've had with the restaurant. This ensures honesty.
How we built it
We used Gemini and SERPAPI to gather the data that collects opinions. We used VS Code as our platform to manage it.
Challenges we ran into
We struggled with connecting the backend and the frontend.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we could use the extension to give readers a brief yet comprehensive summary of the positive and negative reviews of the restaurant location(s) closest to the user's location.
What we learned
We learned how to manage data, how to summarize paragraphs of opinions into 1-2 sentences, and how to connect the summaries set up by the backend to the Chrome extension content.
What's next for ReviewFinder
We plan to make the summarization process of the reviews faster.
