Inspiration
The understudied sensory experience of dreaming.
- Many people don't understand their subconscious minds.
- Dreams often hold significant insights into our emotions and behaviours.
- Current dream tracking methods are fragmented and inefficient.
- A centralized system can help in emotional regulation and self-awareness.
What it does
- Reverie offers dream data reports derived from the ReverieCuff, a small ear piece that tracks dream activity during sleep cycles.
- By visualizing dreams through detailed reports, users may identify patterns and connect to deeper insights and resources through a centralized system.
- Reverie serves to enhance one’s sense of agency over their emotions through awareness and reflections.
How we built it
- Utilized FigJam to brainstorm preliminary ideas, the proposed solution, user flows and visual mood boards.
- Distributed a user survey to analyze audience feelings toward dream activity.
- Revised user flow based on survey feedback.
- Utilized Figma Design to complete initial low-fi UI wireframing.
- Designed product renders and sent them for 3D printing.
- A high fidelity prototype was finalized using asset libraries and Figma Make to create various assets and interactive flows.
Challenges we ran into
- The first 3D print was initially created with clear filament to shine LED lights, but the print failed. We reprinted using solid PLA with success.
- After putting our wireframes into Figma Make, it wasn't generating our interactions as intended, so we manually prototyped them in Figma Design.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Producing not just an app design, but also a physical prototype to accompany it.
- Finishing this challenge on time while balancing school midterms.
What we learned
- Dreams are strongly connected to users’ emotional wellbeing. Over 70% of survey respondents said their dreams reflect their emotions.
- Privacy is essential when working with deeply personal data like dreams.
- Personalized reflection prompts and structured journaling can help users gain deeper insight into their subconscious.
What's next for Reverie
- Research scientifically proven dream studies to improve Reverie’s AI so dream analyses and reflections become more accurate and useful.
- Explore the possibility of developing a real future version of the ReverieCuff capable of detecting dream activity during sleep.
